BC Extra: BCLC's $1 Add-On for Lotto Max and 6/49

BC Extra is the British Columbia version of the Western Extra concept — a $1 add-on game with a 4-digit matching mechanic, run by BCLC. The top prize is $500,000, half of Western Extra's headline figure but at the same purchase odds.

What is BC Extra?

BC Extra is a $1 add-on draw game operated by BCLC, available only in British Columbia. You can attach it to Lotto Max, Lotto 6/49, BC/49, or BC Daily 7 ticket purchases.

Each play prints a unique 4-digit number. The matching mechanic is identical to Western Extra; the only meaningful difference is BC Extra's top prize ($500,000) is half that of Western Extra ($1,000,000).

How to play BC Extra

Add Extra at any BCLC retailer terminal when buying your parent ticket. The 4-digit number is randomly generated and printed on the ticket.

After the parent draw, BCLC publishes the Extra winning number. Match digits in exact position (left-to-right) for prizes.

BC Extra odds

  • Top prize ($500,000) — 1 in 3,764,376 per play.
  • Any prize — approximately 1 in 9 per play.
  • Same odds as Western Extra at half the top prize.

Should you add BC Extra?

BC Extra has the same odds as Western Extra at half the top prize. On pure expected-value math, that's worse. But for BC players, BC Extra is the only available add-on game; the comparison is moot. Per-dollar EV is still well above scratch tickets and most other lottery products in BC.
